Descendants of the family of a Union soldier have requested FCCPA’s assistance in locating the cemetery at Camp Franklin where Pennsylvanian James Gibb of the 99th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers (later the 32nd Reg. PV) was buried.

The family received two letters from commanding officers explaining that James Gibb had died October 6, 1861, after enlisting 21 September. Through research, it was learned that Camp Franklin was located near the seminary in Alexandria, Virginia and was part of the defenses of Washington. Its topography helped in defense of the Chain Bridge. No further information could be found about a cemetery or the removal of remains to another cemetery.

If anyone can provide additional information, please contact FCCPA through this website.
