Woodlawn Baptist church, which was founded in 1868, was received into the Southern Baptist Convention the following year.  The church building was constructed in 1872 and has had many alterations and additions since then.  The cemetery, which is divided by the church driveway is well maintained. Recently the church cemetery was threatened by the widening of Route 1.  The community fought and won the right to preserve the church members’ final resting places.  Surveyors noticed that the burials’ orientation is mixed and as a result the headstones face in many different directions.  Beautiful old trees shade the cemetery.  Many of those buried here are among the earliest settlers to Fairfax County.
