The cemetery is located behind a Herndon Middle School parking lot and next to the tennis courts. Because of fences the only access is through the apartment complex near the cemetery.

Richard Coleman operated an ordinary where Dranesville Tavern eventually operated. In 1776, Richard’s son, Colonel John Coleman built the first house in Herndon. It was known as Eldonwood Fruit Farm. The home was torn down in 1964 and apartments were built on the site. The Coleman cemetery was preserved, but appears to have been forgotten. A no trespassing sign, downed trees, and thick brush greet visitors to the cemetery. It is very difficult to even visualize a cemetery at the location. Previous surveyors record a grave stone marker for Wm. Kitchen, born Feb. 1st 1789, Died Dec. 2nd 1850.

In November 2010, a few possible field stone grave markers were found, but no monuments. The surveyors noted that this will become a lost cemetery unless someone intervenes to protect it.
