On a crisp fall day, community volunteers joined together to spruce up this African American Cemetery in Fairfax City. Since there are no more trustees to care for the cemetery, Fairfax City has maintained the mowing of the cemetery. Members of the FCCPA, Burke Historical Society, and Historic Fairfax cleared brush, picked up trash, and cleaned markers. One young volunteer from Rocky Run Middle School also pitched in.

Some markers were “discovered” through the efforts of the group. The volunteers were proud of their work, which resulted in a large mound of brush and leaves to be removed. Also, several large bags of cans and bottles were taken away.
