Located on Lee Highway near the intersection with Gallows Road, this almost one hundred year old cemetery is hidden, but not forgotten. In September 2010, the surveyors, who were searching for Capt. Salsbury’s grave, found that the cemetery is well maintained and still in active use. The cemetery is almost a half acre with a twelve foot strip in the middle reserved for the Porter family. There is a mixture of old and new markers. The family names include many well-known to Fairfax County: Robey, Kidwell, Tobin, Weakley, Trammell, Walker etc. Civil War Veterans Confederate Cpl. Charles Ozias Robey and Union Capt. Harmon Salsbury are buried there. Also, O. A. Scanland, once an operator of today’s Colvin Run Mill, is buried in the cemetery. The cemetery is surrounded by a wrought iron fence and rows of trees, nestled behind Merrifield Community Hall.
